Hello December! And 5 Day Re-Focus on Health Free Challenge!

Hellooooo to my little neglected blog. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It’s been a long time but just wanted to type up a little update since it’s been about 4 months since I last updated.

I last updated in late August. Geez! What has happened since then? Let’s make a brief list, shall we?

* Ran and completed in the Inaugural Dumbo Double Dare Challenge in Anaheim, CA in September. The Disneyland Half was Half # 7 for me.
* Took a much needed Disneyland vacay in September (Disney trip and Dumbo Challenge were during the same trip…yup, a race-cation)
* Completed Half # 8, the Rock N Roll San Jose Race in San Jose, CA in October. Let’s just say I pretty much walked that Half.
* Completed Half # 9, the 10th Anniversary of the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco, CA. It was my first time running Nike and I loved it!
* Paid a visit to Grapevine, Texas (near Dallas) for an awesome weekend of personal development, workouts and awesomeness.
* Saw an advanced screening of The Best Man Holiday with the BFF. Such a great movie filled with lots of laughs and tears.
* Completed Half # 10 last weekend- the Inaugural Berkeley Half Marathon in Berkeley, CA.

Besides that fun stuff, I’ve been busy with work. I was able to attend a recent dinner event for work that launched the new Dockers Wellthread line. Wellthread is a new clothing line that focuses on sustainability both in design and process, and will be released in Spring 2014.

Thanksgiving was just a couple of days ago, but look- it’s already December and getting ready for Christmas is in full effect!

And so is cleaning up my post-Thanksgiving eating! I’m leading a free 5 day Re-focus on Health Challenge Group starting on Monday- December 2 and I’m SOOOO looking forward to it. I have 10 participants plus myself and we’ll be following the same clean eating plan, doing workouts of our choice and having daily accountability check-in’s via a private FB group. I’ve been eating poorly and have been inconsistent with exercise, so I’m happy about this challenge group giving a jump start to better habits. There will be more challenge groups that I’ll be leading in the near future, including a P90X3 challenge group starting in January.

And yes, you did hear that correctly….there will be a new P90X program released very soon…P90X3 will be here in 10 days. WHOOHOO!!

Finding that balance & SJR TRI GIVEAWAY

It’s been a long time, and my blog has been neglected. I started a new job a few months ago, and I’ve been in transition- taking everything in, and finding time to enjoy my life as best as I can. 
 
This new job has me now commuting into San Francisco. The first few weeks were tough- waking up way earlier and getting home way later that I was used to. Feeling tired and sleepy and getting used to public transportation. Needing coffee but not wanting to be dependent on caffeine. So on and so forth…
 
Since starting my new job, one thing that has been affected has been my training- my short maintenance runs and short workouts during the week. I was always good with keeping up my short runs twice a week since I was able to run around the neighborhood at my former job. But adjusting to my new schedule had left me tired and barely enough energy to get home, have a decent meal, and keep up with taking care of my apartment. 
 
How do you find a balance? From working full time, taking care of your kids/family, training/regular exercise, hobbies, etc. How do YOU find that balance? How do you manage to keep it all in check without amping up on too much caffeine, burning out from exhaustion, losing your head, and/or some combination of those all together? I tried to run immediately after work and just stay in SF but that would lead to dinner after the run, to me getting home late since the train headed back home wouldn’t be as frequent. 
 
Here I am trying to find ways to keep a balance with my 14-15 hour days and train for a bunch of half marathons coming up in the Fall…but how about those of you who are training for more? A Triathlon, perhaps? Not only do you need time to get runs in, but some swim, biking and brick workouts too! I can’t even imagine having to train for a Tri (I would consider a Duathlon, but I’m scared of open water so no Tri’s for me).

“Don’t Call it a Comeback”

So I start this blog…then I run a Half Marathon (2013 Tinker Bell Half), then I’m on vacation for a week immediately after the Half (Hellooooo Disneyland Resort!), then I return back home and return to normal life and work and WHAM! Talk about busy bumble bee! Life has been so busy, that I basically forgot about my little blog that I just started. It’s been neglected so early in its existence and I do apologize, especially since I received such awesome feedback and support when I first launched my blog. I will do my best to post on a more consistent basis!

What is in the works for this blog in the near future? Mostly Recaps come to mind (my experience at the 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon and at the Meet Up) and also my Training sessions. I’ve been focused on my training lately since I have some upcoming back to back Half Marathons (back to back to me….running 2 Half’s just one month apart from each other is the shortest gap that I’ve done in terms of running Half’s).

I’ve got a short race-cation coming up this weekend and I’m super excited! I’ll be running the San Diego Half Marathon this coming Sunday and I can’t wait! Had I known about this race last year (when it was the inaugural race in 2012), I would have ran it last year. I’ve heard nothing but awesome-ness about this race and I can’t wait to return to San Diego and have an awesome race-cation weekend with a great friend. Yes, race recap and blog post for the SD Half will be in the works as well. 😉
