It’s already the beginning of April, where does the time go? 2013 ended and 2014 began on the same note…me being sick. I had the flu prior to Christmas. And the dreaded cough didn’t hit me until after the flu was done running it’s course. The cough lingered…and lingered…and lingered. Then I started feeling out of breath. Somehow I managed to get through two 10k races (Brazen New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day races). It was a few weeks prior to Tinker Bell Half weekend and then I started freaking out as my condition was not improving. Finally contacted my doctor and it turned out that I had slight bronchitis. Well, I’ll be darned. I was prescribed inhalers and yes, I ran/walked the Tinker Bell 10k and Half with my inhaler in my water bottle carrier. It took my nearly two months to get back to normal. Needless to say, I didn’t workout much. With minimal training, I managed to complete the Inaugural Livermore Half Marathon last weekend. If I wasn’t with friends, I don’t know if I would have gotten through that race.
I have minimal races lined up this year. But the races that I will be doing are big…or should I say expensive as they are race-cation’s. This year, I will finally be earning my Coast to Coast Medal. I will be running the 5th Anniversary of the Wine & Dine Half Marathon in November. My first half marathon was the Inaugural 2012 Tinker Bell Half. When I learned about the Coast to Coast Challenge, I knew that I would someday be earning my C2C with the Wine & Dine race. There’s various reasons for me choosing Wine & Dine: W&D is the only race at Walt Disney World that interests me, the race being spaced out far from Tink helps my wallet, it would be the 5th anniversary in 2014, and it happens during the Food & Wine Festival. Making 2014 my Coast to Coast year was ALWAYS part of my plan. It was a goal that I set out to do back in 2011 when I was training for Tink. I took advantage of early registration for Annual Passholder’s and registered for both the Wine & Dine Half and the Jingle Jungle 5k at the beginning of March.
Then of course, runDisney announces the Inaugural Avengers Half Marathon weekend taking place THE WEEKEND AFTER Wine & Dine. GAH! I was so conflicted if I should register for Avengers, but being an inaugural runDisney race, I couldn’t say no. Back to back runDisney bi-coastal races was something I wouldn’t think of doing, but life is so short, so…go big or go home?! So yup, I’m registered for the 5k and Half Marathon for BOTH weekends. I’m gonna do it, y’all!
So where does this leave me now? Training. And saving money for these race-cations. But I’m back at square one. After being sick for a couple of months and trying to bounce back from some personal issues, I’m determined to get back to a healthy life- physically and mentally. I’m slowly returning to meal planning my lunches for the week and regular exercise. The last couple of weeks I’ve been walking and doing some TurboFire workouts. I’ll also be re-starting P90X3 as I stopped it around Tinker Bell. My days are long and I commute, so the 30 minute X3 workouts will be perfect.
I’m looking back to re-focusing and getting back to where I was. The speed bumps I’ve encountered are something I have dealt with and I’m determined to not let it be a major roadblock. Cheers to moving onward and upward. Or as Buzz Lightyear would say…To Infinity…and Beyond!
